General activity and event ideas

  • Talk It Up: Celebrate the theme of "Many Stories – One Australia" and meet someone new from your class, school or community and learn about their culture.  Do an oral history project by interviewing someone from a different country and share it with others.  You could write, record or even film the interview.
  • Sport, Dancing and Eating: Play world sports together and involve everyone, learn new dances from countries across the world, or enjoy foods of different cultures.
  • Arts and Crafts: Use your creative abilities to make something that symbolises the different cultures of your local community. You could even hold a poster or art competition.
  • Music and Sounds: Apply your musical talents to reflect your experience of different cultures or traditions — rhyme, rap, or rock to a story about culture and experience.  You could even hold a concert for everyone to enjoy.
  • Listen and Learn: Invite an immigrant to Canada to come and share their story and culture with your class.  You could even research more information about their story or write about your own.
  • Learn from Others: Create a Human Library at your school.  Invite members of your community to act as a "living book" and share their knowledge, experience, and wisdom with students.  A variety of cultures, experiences, and backgrounds provides a rich experience.
  • Fill Your Bucket Day:  Read "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" to your class and have students give compliments (on a bulletin board, on paper on desks, online, etc.), acts of kindness, encouragement, recognition, etc.
  • Love Language: Have a week-long contest where students guess at which language the word 'love' is being spoken in.  Award prizes at the assembly.
  • Acts of Kindness: 25 Random Acts of Kindness Campaign.
