ELL Proficiency Levels:
- Beginning
- Developing
- Expanding
- Consolidating
- Bridging (Advanced)
Our qualified teachers provide direct and indirect instructional support, depending on the proficiency level and unique needs of each student. We focus on helping all students develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, as well as strategies for social and academic success. Students are funded to receive additional ELL instruction for up to a maximum of 5 years.
Secondary Schools

Classes:
ELL Course (non-credit)
- Beginning or Developing
- Designed to support skills required for language strategies or regular English courses
School Board Authorized Courses (4 credits)
- Basic English Language Development and Culture 10 (Beginning)
- Introduction to Academic Language 10 (Developing)
- English Language Development 11 (Expanding)

Elementary & Middle Schools
ELL teachers are in all elementary and middle schools:
- Direct service for Beginning and Developing ELLs
- Direct or indirect service for Expanding, Consolidating and Bridging ELLs
- Classroom support for Beginning and Developing Kindergarten ELLs
