This week I was saddened to hear of planned protests against SOGI supports and materials in public schools. BC Human Rights Commissioner Kasari Govender's said that "peaceful demonstration protects democracy and generates debate, but the human rights of trans and 2SLGBTQIA+ people are not up for debate." Likewise, a statement from our Board of Education last year reiterated our District's commitment to inclusive places to learn and work; "we do not tell people who they should be, we welcome everyone as they are."

We will always uphold the safety and human rights of students and staff. We will always strive to ensure vulnerable young people can have a sense of belonging so they can focus on their learning priorities. Our staff consistently promote kindness, respect, and inclusion in many ways throughout the school year. I am proud of our efforts because they make our society a kinder and safer. There is always more work to do, and it is a journey we will walk together.
