AMLE -This We Believe

As the excitement builds for the beginning of a new school year, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of the parents, staff and students who have already welcomed me as the new principal of Springvalley Middle School.  I am also very appreciative of the assistance provided during the transition by Mr. Lea, Mrs. Voros,  Mrs. Villeneuve, and Ms. Weninger.   I would like to thank Mr. Lea and his outstanding leadership as the outgoing principal and for laying an outstanding foundation for learning at SMS.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with you and will continue to work hard to enhance the excellent reputation that has become the trademark of Springvalley Middle School.
My goal for the coming year is simply to make this the best school year ever for every student, parent and staff member!.  I absolutely love having the opportunity to do the work I do.  It is extremely fulfilling to know that our collective efforts can make such a profound impact on the lives of so many.  I encourage you to join me in building on our strengths and addressing any challenges in a positive fashion.
I have 2 challenges for the students of Springvalley Middle School:
  • To be the most positive, respectful, and kind person you can be
  • To be the hardest working, most dedicated student possible.
I look forward to the conversations about our school with students, staff, and parents as we get to know one another.  It is our collective efforts that will make the difference!
If you have questions about SMS or any of our programs, please call the school anytime.  Any of our staff would be happy to answer your questions.
If you are interested in the philosophy behind many of the structures and strategies associated with the Core Middle School values that form a focus for us a SMS, please explore the links (on the left Menu bar) to the Association for Middle Level Education and their "This We Believe" position paper.

I sincerely look forward to working with you in the coming years!

Mr. Troy White

GET ACTIVE
Get involved in as many clubs and activities as you can. You can get involved in anything from a sports team to a school sponsored club activity. It doesn't matter who you are or what you're interested in -- there's a place for you in middle school activities! Getting involved is the best way to make lasting friends and truly learn what your school has to offer. The more you are involved, the better you will do in your academics!
ASK QUESTIONS
If you need any sort of advice or assistance, it is important to ASK QUESTIONS. There are lots of people available to give you the answers you need: teachers, counselors, coaches or office staff. It's their job to give you guidance if you're struggling, lost, or even just a little confused about something. You'll probably find that you're not the first student -- or the last -- to have a certain problem.
READ
Reading can be one of the most enjoyable activities we do - it allows you to go places you've never been before, do things you've never done, and even be someone you've never been. And it doesn't have to look like school! ANY reading you do - magazines, comic books, short stories, newspapers, even blogs - is good.
SCHOOL PLANNING COUNCIL
For a school to be succesfull, it is imperative that the entire school community be involved in the planning process and setting achievement goals for students. This past year, a dedicated group of parents and teachers worked very hard to create a living document that can help guide our practice throughout the year.
