Quigley Elementary School Receives a S’Cool National Grant KELOWNA, BC: On September 15 at 8:40 am the media and public are invited to take part in a special grant presentation assembly. Principal Bruce Stewart is happy to report that Quigley Elementary has received a grant of $2,500 from the “S’Cool Life Fund”, a national foundation based in Toronto. The money will help to support the school’s ongoing courtyard revitalization project. “Our grant of $2,500 will assist us as we make our courtyard a central place of learning and laughter!” says Stewart. “We plan to use these funds to enhance our courtyard’s capabilities, with new equipment to promote the development of art, drama, gardening and plant science, music and recreational opportunities based in our newly restored courtyard, a place of beauty.” The gift from S’Cool recognizes the hard work of Quigley staff and students, particularly those in Grade 6 who pitched in and did much of the construction in the courtyard. Each grade level also created a tall mural to bring natural scenery into the enclosed space. Each year the S’Cool Life Fund supports on average 100 projects across the country. On their website (www.scoollifefund.ca) S’Cool states its goals: “We support DREAMS - Drama, Recreation, Extra-Curricular, Arts, Music, or Sports. Schools that have been successful in receiving a grant have amazed us with their applications for projects reaching the most children with the most interesting things. S’Cool does not look to fund core academic subjects, but instead those areas that fall outside of the core curriculum but are no less important for a child’s development.”
