100th Anniversary Celebration at Oyama Traditional School
OYAMA, BC: On September 30 at 10:00 am, Oyama Traditional School celebrates the 100th Anniversary of education in their community. In 1908, the first schoolhouse was a wood and tar paper building approximately the size of single modern classroom.
“On behalf of the parents and families at Oyama Traditional School we are thrilled to be celebrating 100 years of education in Oyama!” says Vicki Dalgleish, PAC President. “There is an amazing history packed into the years and some of our students are third generation following in the footsteps of their parents and grandparents.”
“Throughout the decades, the school in Oyama has faced many challenges. Most recently, the challenge was to keep the school open. The current families of OTS are very appreciative of the effort and dedication of those who rallied to keep education in Oyama. Without the support of the trustees, the parents and the entire community we wouldn’t be celebrating this milestone!”
The event also officially opens the new playground. Funds for the equipment and installation were raised in large part by the school’s Parent Advisory Council.
