New Dr. Knox Middle School Open House KELOWNA, BC: On September 16, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the public is invited to tour the new Dr. Knox Middle School at 121 Drysdale Blvd. in Kelowna. The open house will include tours, a barbeque, entertainment and technology, department and memorabilia displays. The new middle school is one that the District and students are proud to unveil to the community. “The new school is the wave of the future concerning our environment and student achievement in all facets of education,” says Vice-Principal Sylvain Guignard. “Geothermal heating/cooling makes the school very energy efficient. The students are also enjoying facilities that were not available in the old school including a drama facility, an oversized gymnasium, and a technology/education room. These are just a few areas that make the school very special.” The reaction from students has been very positive: “Imagine 830 students waking up Christmas morning and opening up their best gift…every morning for an entire week,” says Guignard. Students and staff can also access technologies to enhance the educational experience: wireless internet throughout the school, LCD projectors, and special screens with internet access. The school was under construction for 18 months and was designed with input from teachers and other District staff. Ken Kovacs, Project Manager for School District No. 23, feels the school has a college campus feel to it with bright, open spaces and rooms custom-designed for specific courses.
