Nester’s Market Raises $1,000 for Bankhead Elementary’s Replacement Playground

KELOWNA, BC: Thanks to Nester’s Market, children at Bankhead Elementary are $1,012.62 closer to their goal of $35,000 for a new adventure playground. On Saturday, September 20, staff from Nester’s Market along with parent volunteers served long lines of people who came to enjoy a hotdog or hamburger to help local elementary school students.

“I think it’s fabulous, that the community is really coming together for the kids,” says Principal Dennis Tetreau.

The event planning began months earlier in June when Nester’s Market manager Bob Cameron visited the Principal to discuss how the nearby store could help out. “I told him that our focus for fundraising this year was the adventure playground replacement,” explains Tetreau. “He suggested donating the proceeds of the store’s grand opening in September to the playground project. I arranged to have him meet our school’s PAC, who were very happy with the fundraising opportunity.”

Cameron will present the cheque to the Principal and the Bankhead Elementary PAC on Wednesday, October 8th at an assembly beginning at 8:45 am.

Bankhead Elementary has raised over $16,000 for their new playground. “Our students and parents have been very creative and determined in their fundraising efforts!” says Tetreau. “The school is also accepting public donations and people who donate $20 or more will qualify for a charitable tax receipt. I am confident that we will meet our target in time. We have a very determined and hardworking group of parents.”
