Raymer Elementary Reunion and Auction Celebrates 60 Years in the Community

KELOWNA, BC: In 1949, Raymer Elementary opened its doors for the first time and to celebrate this momentous occasion, parent volunteers and staff are planning a Creative Arts Exhibition and Reunion.  Although the event will take place on May 28th from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m., organizers are asking for help in spreading the word since many of the former students and their parents have moved to other communities.

“This event is going to be like nothing we’ve ever done at Raymer Elementary,” says Principal Bruce McKay.  “This is not to be missed!  For the past few months, our students have been working on incredible artworks that they will sell in our Silent Auction Gallery.  All the proceeds will help to enrich the learning experience through field trips and more.  There will also be entertainment and live demonstrations from SOKS and other talented artists and musicians.”

A living museum featuring reenactments and costumed students will take viewers back in time to the Kelowna of the 1940s right up to the current day.  With free coffee, tea and dessert in the social room, this will be a chance to catch up with former classmates and friends.  Participants will also have an opportunity to win some great raffle prizes which include themed gift baskets, sports packages and a Big White Ski package.  Anyone who is interested in donating a prize is invited to contact the school.  

“This event is also an opportunity to introduce parents and students to our recently implemented ‘Learning through the Arts’ (LTTA) program,” says McKay.  “This program recognizes that creativity and inventiveness are not restricted to the art room; they are now also essential in science, business and almost every other field.”

“I’d like to acknowledge the incredible efforts of everyone involved in making this exhibition and reunion a memorable success and a special thank you to Kerry Adams, the Chairperson of our Planning Committee.  I hope that we can reward their efforts with a great turnout!”
