300 Basketball Players Descend on Quigley for Annual Tournament

KELOWNA, BC: On Wednesday and Thursday, March 4 and 5, more than 300 basketball players in Grade 6 will participate in an annual tournament taking place at Quigley Elementary School.  During the two days of the tournament, there will be 37 games involving players from 12 different schools.  The event is a logistical challenge for Principal Bruce Stewart and teachers but also a great opportunity for students and their parents to enjoy two days of a sport they love!

“This is the highlight of the year for many of these students and we are looking forward to hosting the tournament,” says Bruce.  “I commend the teachers and parents who have offered their assistance in planning and supervising and also the middle school students who volunteered to be trained as referees.”

The girl’s tournament takes place on Wednesday and the boy’s on Thursday.  Each game is scheduled to be 25 minutes long with games back-to-back.   Players are encouraged to remain until the end of the tournament when there will be brief presentations.  Each participant will receive a tournament ribbon.

The following elementary schools will participate, each sending teams to the girls and/or boys tournaments: Anne McClymont, A.S. Matheson, Glenmore, Dorothea Walker, North Glenmore, South Kelowna, Belgo, Black Mountain, Ellison, Casorso, Quigley and Springvalley.

Approved by the Superintendent on March 3, 2009
