KSS Designated Level 1 Training Provider for Automotive Service Tech Program

KELOWNA, BC: Kelowna Secondary School (KSS) and the Career/Life Department are pleased to announce that the Industry Training Authority (ITA) has certified KSS as a Level 1 training provider of the Automotive Service Technician Program (ACE-IT).  The program, which began in September 2007, is taught by Kendall Thomas, a teacher and certified Red Seal Mechanic with industry experience.

“The Board of Education of School District No. 23 is pleased to acknowledge the efforts of our Career/Life department and KSS in providing another opportunity for our students to gain career skills,” says Rolli Cacchioni, Chairperson of the Board of Education.  “This forward-looking program is another example of the District providing excellent learning opportunities for our students, while laddering them into meaningful careers.”

Since the program began in the 2007/2008 school year, Grade 12 students at KSS have been able to earn credits towards graduation and complete their Level 1 technical training.  Students attend the program every second day, alternating with their regular school day.  Many also participated in work experience placements at local automotive service shops this spring.

To celebrate this ITA designation and the hard work of everyone involved in the program, KSS ACE-IT will host a barbeque on Thursday, June 11 from 12:00 noon to 1:15 p.m.  Participants are also invited to view the facilities and the newly-installed hoist.

"This is an unprecedented accomplishment for KSS and our District's Dual Credit Programs,” says Norm Bradley, Director of Instruction.  “Kendall Thomas is to be commended for his leadership and vision in delivering this program and being designated as a Level 1 provider.  Recognition for this program start-up also needs to go to the Administration of KSS and Kelly Mcrae and Stacey Smith from our District Career/Life Programs staff for their collective support."
