Take Our Kids to Work (TOKTW) Day is
The Learning Partnership's flagship initiative
and one of its most popular programs.

On Wednesday, November 2, 2011, grade 9 students across Canada will experience a work day in the life of an adult.  Participating students will spend the day alongside adults observing and assisting, where possible, in careers such as plumber, hotel manager, teacher, rancher, nutritionist, firefighter, pilot, cashier, receptionist, and the list goes on.

Students will learn about safety in the workplace, and the training and education required to work in these careers.   As well, they learned what stresses and benefits were associated with the job.

Some responses from students who were asked "What was the most enjoyable event for you?":

“The most enjoyable event that occurred at work was feeling professional when I was hooking things up at houses.”

“The most enjoyable and exciting event that occurred at the firehall when I was there was when they got an emergency call and I was able to go with them and ride in the fire truck with the sirens on… it was super cool.”

“I got to fly in a plane!”

“It was nice to have a day to see what my parents do.”
“I liked going to my mom’s work because I got to see how the bank runs.  And also I got to actually spend some time alone with my mom.”
