Job Shadowing
Job Shadowing is a three part program that enables students to explore specific career interests through observation at a work site.
Introduction to Job Shadowing Training
Students are required to obtain parent and teacher approval, then complete a Job Shadow training session at school covering the following:
Confidentiality training, appropriate dress, punctuality, manners
Safety on the worksite (hazard recognition, WCB form completion)
Questions and how to ask them
Telephoning employers; how to arrange a visit
The Worksite Placement
Once a student selects a Job Shadowing site, the Career Centre Manager contacts the employer to
make initial arrangements. The student is then responsible for:
Contacting the employer to confirm time, date, location and appropriate dress
Completing the WCB form PRIOR to the start of the job shadow placement
Observing and experiencing a typical day in the career they are shadowing
Asking questions regarding the advantages and disadvantages associated with this type of employment
