Dual Credit Programs
These programs allow students the opportunity to earn post-secondary course credits while in high school. Students are enrolled as both post-secondary students and high school students. The credits they earn are applied towards high school graduation and a post-secondary program.
Dual Credit Application Update!
Applications are now being accepted for Dual Credit Programs beginning September 2012! Students should start the application process now as admittance is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Get started by visiting your school Career Center.
See our Dual Credit Programs page on this site, or go to your Career Centre, for more information or to get an application form. There is a mandatory interview that will take place before accepting a student into Dual Credit Programs. This will be scheduled upon receipt of a completed application.

What Dual Credit Programs are offered in SD #23?

Programs are offered at BCIT's SD #23 facilities at Rutland Senior Secondary, Okanagan College's KLO Campus and Penno Road Campus or at district secondary schools (KSS, RSS and MBSS).

What are the benefits of taking a Career/Technical Transition Program?
- High school course credits towards graduation
- Post-secondary credits towards a diploma or certificate
- Introduction to a post-secondary environment
- Preparation to apprentice in a trade OR begin technical training prior to high school graduation
- Post secondary tuition fees are waived while you are enrolled in high school
- Fast-tracking your post-secondary training
Grade 11 and 12 secondary school graduation credits are earned concurrently with completion of dual credit course work. For each 10 weeks of OC/BCIT course work successfully completed, students will earn 8 equivalent secondary school graduation credits. Completion of a full OC/BCIT program will earn students 32 secondary school credits.
What are the entrance requirements?
Each program has its own specific academic entrance requirements, but in general students will need the following to be considered:
- Under 19 years of age as of June 30th, or
- Enrolled in a current graduation program - see each program for specific courses
- Minimum marks as outlined by Okanagan College or BCIT
- Good marks within the core subject areas required for admission to Okanagan College or BCIT
- A strong commitment to the chosen program as a long-term career choice
- Demonstrated maturity and group work skills
Great! How do I apply?
Application forms can be picked up at your school's Career Centre or can be downloaded by clicking the "Application Package" button at the top of the page. Return all completed application packages to your school's Career Centre. Be prepared for an entrance interview after your application has been received.
