Organization
The Aboriginal Education Council provides guidance to the School District in the administration of the Aboriginal Program. It is composed of a wide representation from the Aboriginal community and meets regularly to plan for student success.
The Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Terry Beaudry, is responsible for the Aboriginal Education Program. She works closely with the Aboriginal Education Council and the Principal - Aboriginal Education to implement the goals.
The District Principal, Cammy Coughlin, coordinates and provides leadership to the Aboriginal Student Advocates, the Cultural Facilitator, the Certified Education Assistants, and classroom teachers. She also works with the Aboriginal Education Assistant, Donna MacMillan, to coordinate district wide events for Aboriginal students.
The Cultural Facilitator, Karen Chase, and the Cultural Assistant, Claudia Hardy, consult with Elementary, Middle and Secondary school staff to facilitate the integration of Aboriginal cultural material into their classes.
Aboriginal Student Advocates provide emotional, social, academic and cultural support to students. They work closely with families, teachers and other personnel to provide service for students.
Certified Education Assistants provide academic coaching in literacy, numeracy and study skills under the direction of the Learning Assistance teachers in each school.
Teachers provide academic support to secondary students in all curricular areas in most secondary schools.
